What is Invisalign in Weybridge?
Although we’ve been offering Invisalign in Weybridge to our patients for some time now here at Weybridge Orthodontics, there continues to be a portion of people out there that are unaware of what Invisalign actually is or the positive impact it could have on their oral futures.
Invisalign was first conceived back in 1998 by a Stanford University graduate called Zia Chishti who wanted a way to align a person’s teeth in a way that has almost no impact on how they look.
The basis of Chishti’s Invisalign system is to remove the conventions associated with orthodontics of that time – which mostly relied on fixing brackets to every tooth and applying tension to them with a wire.
Rather than take this approach, Chishti decided to explicitly employ the use of a series of custom-made retainers which have pressure points inside them that push misplaced teeth together over time.
After being approved by the FDA in 1998 the Invisalign retainer system gained worldwide popularity and by 2000 was one of the most popular alternatives to traditional orthodontics across the globe, and still is to this day.
What is the process of getting Invisalign at Weybridge Orthodontics?
The Invisalign system, at its core, requires an individual and bespoke approach and the retainers are each custom-made specifically to fit the patient getting them.
As such we always begin each course of Invisalign treatment here at Weybridge Orthodontics with a consultation.
These are an essential part of the process as they let us work out whether or not each patient will be eligible for Invisalign – as their gums need to be of a certain level of health for the treatment to be successful.
Another benefit of these consultations is that they allow patients the opportunity to ask our dentists any questions that they may have about the Invisalign process, and what the results will look like. Once we’ve completed these initial consultation stages the measurements, photographs or digital impressions we need to build every patient’s unique set of transparent, removable Invisalign retainers – which they can then take home with them to carry out the process at their own leisure.
